So here’s a few tips on how to find the right Breeder Of Miniature Dachshund puppies for sale in Essex.
Only look at Purebred Kennel Club Registered Puppies
The Kennel Club is the UK’s largest organisation devoted to dog health, welfare and training. It concerns itself with the breeding and showing of all registered breeds. It maintains breed standards, record pedigrees, and issue the rules for conformation dog shows and trials and accreditation of judges. Make sure your miniature dachshund puppy and both parents are KC Registered and all certificates are provided on sale day by the breeder.
Ask Lots of Questions
Good breeders are happy to answer all your questions, no matter how silly they might sound to help you make an informed decision. They should also ask you questions so they can be sure that you will provide a good home for their puppy. After all, they don’t just want to make a sale, they want to place their puppies in loving forever-homes. Questions to ask may include:
‘Can I see both the parents’ and their Kennel Club pedigree registration papers’
All of our miniature dachshund parents and puppies produced are KC Registered from Champion Lineage and come with relevant certificates in their puppy packs ready for you when you collect.
‘What genetic or DNA tests do you run on your breeding dogs?’
Different breeds of dogs are prone to different genetic diseases. In the dachshund these are most commonly IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) and Cord1-PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy) – an inherited disease of the eyes that causes blindness. All of our dogs are tested hereditary clear for both. We also provide you with lots of advice for maintaining a healthy lifestyle to avoid your miniature dachshund puppy developing these diseases.
‘Have your puppies seen a vet?’
Our puppies undergo a full health check by a vet when they attend to have their first vaccination and microchip. The vet produces a print out of this health check which is part of your puppy pack.
How do you socialize your puppies?
Our puppies grow up in a busy loving home full of sausage dogs and people and are exceptionally well socialised, handled and loved from birth.
‘What a do you feed your miniature dachshund puppies and dogs?’
From the moment our puppies are born we encourage them to latch onto mummy’s teats. We feed mummy with fresh chicken, offal, chicken broth, goats milk, cottage cheese, natural yoghurt and milk thistle to encourage a very healthy production of milk. A mother dog’s milk, also known as colostrum, is rich in nutrients and antibodies that provide puppies with all the nutrition they need for the first few weeks after birth. Colostrum is highly digestible and calorie dense, and contains more than twice as much protein as cow’s milk. It also helps protect puppies from illness while their immune systems are still developing. Puppies inherit their mother’s immunity if she is fully vaccinated and they receive colostrum within the first 16 hours of life. At 3 weeks we top them up with Raw weaning meat. At 5 weeks they are weaned onto Kibble complete food and goats milk and completely off Mummy. Not spoilt much!
‘At what age can I take my puppy home?’
Ideally, they should stay with their mummy and littermates until they are eight to 10 weeks old. We monitor each litter and puppy individually and decide when they are ready to leave us for their new home.
‘Do you have reviews I can read?’
We certainly do! We are very proud of our reviews which can be viewed here https://marthersminiaturedachshunds.co.uk/5-star-reviews/
‘What should I buy for my puppy?’
We provide you with a long list of recommended items from crates, to anti anxiety beds, to food and toys and treats to keep puppy happy, healthy and stimulated.
